**** Update *****

First pass at setting up the visual layout for a gel electrophoresis. This first version shows an 8 lane gel. The switch on the bottom turns the current on and off. In subsequence versions, the current will control the migration of DNA strands through the gel.

This illustration can go in quite a few directions. It could be the basis of a series of illustrations exploring how DNA migrates through a gel and how this technique is used in modern molecular biology labs. Status V 1.0:
  • Gel drawn with 8 wells
  • Switch at the bottom toggles current on and off
Next Steps:
  • Finish the visual showing the power supply linking to the top and bottom of the gel
  • Set up a visual process for selecting samples to load into the gel and then loading them
  • Write the code to migrate DNA fragments through the gel and allow a switch to toggle the fragment visibility on and off
